Driving simulators and their use

Safety first!

A requirement for the aviation industry is simulators for training pilots. We who travel by plane benefit from this ever-improving technology, as the pilots can train on virtually any situation that might occur during take-off and landing and in mid-flight. To travel with airliners is one of the safest ways to get from A to B.
"People worry about the wrong thing when it comes to the safety of autonomous cars," says Clifford Nass, a Stanford University professor and director of the Revs Program, an interdisciplinary research center. "There are going to be times where the driver has to take over. And that turns out to be by far the most dangerous and totally understudied issue."

Automotive transportation however is not that safe as we would like, each day people die in traffic accidents all over the world and more people are injured and maimed in traffic. With an increase in the numbers of cars all over the world, this is a growing problem. Although modern cars are safer than ever with automatic traffic and obstacle detection, airbags, brilliant engineering et cetera, the problem seems to be impossible to absolve.

However, there is light in the end of the tunnel, we see a growing usage of simulators for car and truck driving. With the possibility to improve safety on the roads and highways around the world. Driving schools can use the simulators to make their students take their first faltering steps in car driving or truck delivery companies can train their chauffeurs in all kinds of driving conditions. The possibilities are endless!

AutoSim has been making driving simulators since 1992 and has had great success with their simulators internationally - universities, research facilities, car manufacturers and driving schools use these simulators. One of the customers is the Poland based ITS. Look at the video showing the systems delivered and integrated by AutoSim, the AS 1200 and AS 1600 simulators with 6-axis motion systems.

In addition ITS is using the AutoSim SimWorld software suite for their simulators to build new exercises and training sessions. The SimWorld simulator engine constructs environments and scenarios that the simulator can run.

An exciting future lies ahead with better and safer driving, with the use of driving simulators as a base of training and this technology is becoming more and more adopted.
